It has been a wonderful start to winter at Dutchies. Chef Jana has been producing food that diners are absolutely LOVING!

The latest reviews of Dutchies on Social Media platforms bear testament to this.

It seems we’ve left foodies from Canada ‘gobsmacked’; served breakfasts as sunny as our terrace on a winter’s day; provided sustenance to early morning beach walkers and ensured the wedding celebrations of a wonderful couple were special.

It is our pleasure! In fact we want to say thank you to you, our patrons. Our aim is to provide an experience, ambience and cuisine that befits a restaurant situated on a Blue Flag Beach as magnificent as Grotto. It is so rewarding when we get feedback that we’re getting it right! Dankjewel!!

“Dinner on the beach”

We are foodies. We had minimal expectations beyond a gorgeous view when we came to Dutchies. We were gobsmacked by the excellent service and outstanding food… And loved the beachy laid back decor and vibe. One starter in particular stood out- a skewer with prawns and pork belly..delicious! We had the fresh line fish special, which was perfectly prepared and nicely presented, and the classic bouillabaisse- spot on. Do yourself a favour and visit Dutchies- the new chef is truly wonderful! While you’re there, order the lemon meringue parfait- my daughter practically licked the plate!

How lovely to sit outside on a sunny winters day and have fresh orange juice and steaming hot coffee served along with a Dutchie breakfast.

Great service, delicious food at reasonable prices with a lovely view of the beach.

After a brisk walk on Grotto Beach my daughter wanted a milkshake and we headed to Dutchies. It’s close to the beach and was perfect on a crisp winter morning. After gulping down her strawberry milkshake she had a lovely toasted sandwich, lovely thick slices of bread with some french fries on the side and of course, extra tomato sauce. Myself and granny had delicious bitterballen. The restaurant was heated and blankets were available to keep warm. Good and friendly service. Sure they are packed in summer!

“First “Table of the chef” experience”

We had the pleasure of being one of the first guests to experience “Table of the chef” with new chef,Jana, at the helm of Dutchies kitchen…It was a huge success with delicious food being paired with Iona wines & while we could see the collaboration between the food & wine was well thought out, one was in for a treat…

From very generous portions to good conversation, it was an evening, we hope will be repeated by this new team that heads up the floor & kitchen of Dutchies…

Joke & Daan, you have done well in the last 2 years & we can only hope that Dutchies will & still is, going from strength to strength & reinventing the “beach cafe/restaurant” scene in Hermanus & why not South Africa…!

“After a walk on the beach”

You can order Dutch famous food in South Africa: such as kroketten and bitterballen. They have also other food, but you can better eat fish dishes at the Ocean Basket in Hermanus.

“Very nice little restaurant on the beach.”

Owner is very nice and friendly and was a great host for our wedding. She helped made the night special and when we went back the next day, she was very happy to see us again. Recommend this place as a must go to spot.
