Double Up the celebrations at Dutchies! We are so excited! This year the biggest annual Dutch celebration, Koningsdag, and the very important South African holiday, Freedom Day, fall on the same day…so it is the perfect opportunity to have double the fun!! Koningsdag is the celebration of the King’s birthday. More than that it is a celebration of unity. It is not, as many think, about royal-worshipping or even patriotism, it’s about oneness. It is the biggest party ever. Holland lets its hair down en-masse and, almost literally, paints the cities, towns and villages Orange. It is a day filled with joy and celebration. Kings Day is a great equalizer because everyone can participate. All you need is an orange shirt and you can head out into the streets to experience the oneness and the gezelligheid of the Dutch people. On this day Holland is filled with chiming bells, music, performers, an abundance of food and drink, and the sounds of laughter and love. Ge-zel-lig!!! As usual Dutchies will be decked out in Orange for the occasion; serving the delicious traditional Tompoes (complete with orange icing); celebratory Herring will be on the menu and we have entertainment lined up for the whole family for the day. And, as usual, should you don an outstanding orange outfit, you could win a prize! The weather is looking fine on Wednesday so we will be having a Koningsdag Castle Competition. Come and build a sandcastle from 9am on the beach in front of  Dutchies. At 11h30 Anina Lee, from Whale Coast Conservation, will come and select a winner and then reveal a bit of the magic of pure nature to be found on beautiful Grotto Beach. DJ Sharklady will be playing from 11am until late. She is brilliant at providing just the right music with sounds ranging from Buddha Bar and loungy music to Funky House, Swing and Jazz. And the good news is that the weather looks like it is going to be fine for the celebrations! See you on Wednesday 27th April 2016! Please remember to book to avoid...

Lady Bonin is coming for Tea

Lady Bonin is coming for Tea

Posted on Jul 2, 2014

We are delighted to be hosting the ladies on the #GonzoTeaTrek for lunch on Tuesday 8th July, the last day of their travels through the Overberg. One of the things that is so special about Dutchies is that it is on Grotto Beach. So many people choose to begin and end journeys here. Whether it be journeying into a new year or a marriage or bidding the ocean farewell before travelling on or ending a long hard hike; Grotto is an iconic place to mark these important moments. As the restaurant right on this glorious Blue Flag beach we get to share these moments – and feel privileged to be able to do so. Read more below about the planned travels of Lady Bonin and her wingman Thaya through the Overberg on their #GonzoTeaTrek. Jessica (Lady Bonin Tea) and Thaya (Love Overberg) will be traversing the Overberg with the Lady Bonin gypsy Tea Caravan, for the#GonzoTeaTrek campaign, from 2-8 July, 2014. This is the first official campaign to promote tourism in the Overberg, conceptualised by the new Social Media agency, The Wanderlust Club, for ON! – an Overberg business network launching on the 2nd of July in collaboration with overberginfo.com Jessica and Thaya will be highlighting ethical, conscious and ‘green’ businesses, movements, projects and more, while travelling through the Overberg for a week (between spontaneously opening the Tea Caravan in little towns and serving tea, like a mobile Mad Hatter’s tea party!). Jessica and Thaya hope that their #GonzoTeaTrek campaign will create awareness around how many people there are doing wonderful ‘green’ things in the Overberg, promoting ecotourism with the delightful gypsy Tea Caravan and a huge dollop of ‘Mad Hatter’ humour in tow. Jessica and Thaya will also be pledging or planting trees to match their mileage for the teatrek, in an effort to reduce their carbon footprint. Keep an eye out for unusual ‘tea pairings’, yoga in weird and wonderful places, raw food and even vegan wines as they post Instagram videos, pics and moments filmed on their GoPro! Spot the caravan en route in the Overberg and Instagram/Twitpic it or share this post with the tag #GonzoTeaTrekand you’ll be entered to win a tea hamper, filled with delicious delights such as Lady Bonin’s loose leaf teas, a beautiful tea strainer and tea cups! Winners will be announced after the tea tour, on 15 July. Itinerary: * Wednesday: Tea and honey pairing at Graze in Stanford; gelato at Don Gelato; Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at The Last Resort and accommodation at Stanford Country Cottages. * Thursday: Picnic basket from Klein River Cheese, visit to Agulhas Honeybush Tea farm, exploring the coast and accommodation at Whalesong Lodge in De Kelders. * Friday: ‘True Harvest‘ event: yoga, raw food and organic treatment morning in Stanford by Mioja, tea and Von Geusau chocolate pairing in Greyton and accommodation at The Blue Hippo. * Saturday: Tea Caravan at the Greyton Market and accommodation and good times at Old Mac Daddy airstream trailer park in...
