Jazz it up this Easter

Jazz it up this Easter Oh yes…it is Autumn. There’s a nip in the air, the sea’s a bit wild and champagne air abounds. We are so looking forward to an Easter Autumn sunset to the sounds of the SNL Jazz Trio this coming Friday. The weekend is looking wettish, starting with thunderstorms predicted for the early hours of Saturday morning. So enjoy the mild weather and outdoors on Friday with an early dinner or cocktails on the terrace and music by three jazz musicians of note. They play across a range of genres; have performed with musical greats the world over; and are not to be missed!! Don’t Crack up this Easter

Don’t Crack up this Easter

Easter can be a time of absolute madness…especially if you’re in Hermanus! We suggest you keep things simple and enjoy Easter the traditional Dutch way. The focus in Holland is on Easter Sunday morning. Children spend the morning decorating boiled eggs that will later be used to spruce up the breakfast or lunch table. While they’re busy the Easter Mummy…umm…Bunny hides some chocolate eggs. Once the children have found all the hidden eggs the family gathers for a hearty breakfast or lunch at a beautifully set table. So keep the kids busy decorating eggs and come to Dutchies for breakfast or lunch. We have some delicious specials for Easter Sunday: Easter Sunday Specials Roast Lamb, potato dauphinoise with Rosemary roasted Autumn vegetables and a minted jus. Slow roasted Pork belly with carrot and apple puree and creamed sweet potato. Salmon and Dill Trout Asparagus Soup Orange cured Trout Carpaccio and citrus ginger salad with wild rocket and cumin Lemon tart Easter Egg Decorating Ideas 1. Wrap an Egg in an Old Tie and Boil In Water with Vinegar more info: ourbestbites.com 2. Keep adding water to the colouring 3. Wrap in lace and dip in...

Vrolijk Pasen

Vrolijk Pasen

It’s Easter! This is one of our favourite celebrations. In Holland Pasen (Easter) starts on Easter Sunday (Eerste Paasdag) and continues on Easter Monday  (Tweede Paasdag), Good Friday is not a holiday. Dutch Easters are filled with hand painted eggs, candles, daffodils and tulips, bunnies, chocolate and all things yellow and white. There are bonfires, decorated Easter Trees, remarkable meals and even mini carnivals in some of the towns. It is Spring in Holland at Easter so everything is very colourful and people spend time enjoying the outdoors. Whether you’re having breakfast, lunch or dinner at Easter, it is always an absolute feast shared with family and friends. We’re celebrating Easter in true Dutch style at Dutchies. We’re baking traditional Paasbrood, Poffertjes, and serving a traditional roast lamb lunch on Easter Sunday. (View the 5 Course Menu) Paasbrood Courtesy of Nicole of www.thedutchtable.com Courtesy of Nicole of www.thedutchtable.com Paasbrood is a rich, cinnamon flavoured bread with golden and dark raisins, currants and citron and orange candied peels, and marzipan. Delicious with a dollop of butter at any meal! Often, at Easter, the Dutch serve butter moulded into the shape of a lamb (botterlammetjie). Poffertjes are found at all Dutch celebrations. They’re mini pancakes that puff up and are traditionally served with powdered sugar and butter. “…the name alone invokes visions of carnivals, festivities and palatal pleasure. Even saying it brings joy to the vocal chords. You can’t say poffertjes (POH-fur-tjes) without a smile on your face, try it!” The Dutch Table We look forward to celebrating Easter with you!
