Winter at Dutchies has been even more of an Indian Summer than we expected and it doesn’t seem to be abating! Between winning the Hermanus Fynarts Culinary Challenge award for best hake dish, our football team “Ons Oranje” doing so well, and our lively quiz nights there is no time to feel the cold. This week we have some live music added into the mix as it is the end of the month – and more football on Sunday. We are thrilled to have received the Hermanus Fynarts award for  “Best Seafood Dish made with Hake” in the festival’s first ever Culinary Challenge. We are so proud of our chef and staff. Thank you to all who voted for us! Our winter #QuizNight competition is really hotting up. Luckily stalwarts “Norfolk in Chance” brought Barry Hilton along with them to ensure things didn’t get too serious. See you all on Thursday! Yes – it’s time to haul out your dancing shoes! An excellent way of shaking out the winter shivers. We’ve got Gary Deacon to come to Hermanus to entertain you on Friday. Enjoy music from “Big Band” Swing to Classic Hits from the 60′s, 70′s, 80′s and 90′s to the present. Many of them perfect for a bit of dancing. It has been wonderful having you all arrive to watch the Netherlands matches with us at Dutchies. Especially as our team is doing so well! Staff and patrons have been going all out dressing up  in Orange or having fun digging through our bag of supporters gear to find something to wear. We are thrilled to announce that we won the “Best Seafood Dish made with Hake” in the first ever Hermanus Fynarts Culinary Challenge. We are so proud of our chef and staff. Thank you to all who voted for us!  Whether an exotic twist on an old favorite, or their own personal creations, chefs participating in the Fynarts Culinary Challenge entered in one, or both, of the following categories: Seafood dish made with Hake Speciality or dessert made using Cape Honey For the month of May, the dishes entered into the FynArts Culinary Challenge were on the menu at the participating restaurants. Patrons participated by tasting the dishes and filling in the evaluation provided by Hermanus Tourism. Their votes contributed 50% to the final scores. During the ten-days of FynArts, a panel of three professional chefs did the final judging. Dutchies is cooking in more ways than one! We are having a ball at Quiz Night on Thursdays. The competition is heating up and we’re not sure who is having more fun – you or us?! Get a team together and enter now – we’re running it in a “league” style through the winter so you could still win even if you haven’t participated!Hermanus Fynarts starts on Friday. There are a multitude of shows, workshops and exhibitions to experience. Please come in and taste (and rate) our entries into the Fynarts Culinary challenge throughout the festival.And, as if things weren’t hot enough, it’s World Cup Soccer time!!!! If you’re talented and live in the Overstrand make sure you enter the first ever Hermanus’s Got Talent competition presented by Hermanys FynArts and Dutchies Restaurant on Grotto Beach. Anyone of any age can enter. The only prerequisite is that you are from the Overstrand. Make a short video or sound clip of your performance and submit it before 12h00 on Monday 9th June 2014. You can upload it on the Dutchies website www.dutchies.co.za, or on their Facebook page, or you can email it to talent@dutchies.co.za. A panel of 3 judges will select 12 entrants to perform at Dutchies on the 15th of June where one of them will win the first prize of a professional video or sound recording. On Sunday 15th June the finalists will perform before a live audience who will vote for the winner. We’re thrilled to be participating in the Hermanus Fynarts Culinary Challenge. This is a new addition to the Hermanus FynArts Festival! Chefs from various restaurants in Hermanus have entered in one, or both, of the following categories: Seafood dish made with Hake Speciality or dessert made using Cape Honey For the month of May, the dishes entered into the FynArts Culinary Challenge will be on the menu at the participating restaurants. Take part in the fun and support these restaurants by tasting the dishes and filling in the evaluation provided by Hermanus Tourism. Your vote will contribute 50% to the final scores!
