Whales…wonderful whales!!

Whales…wonderful whales!!

Posted on Sep 29, 2015

The celebrations have begun and, we know it’s cliched but, everyone in Hermanus has been having a ‘Whale of a Time’. Including the whales! By popular demand our new summer cocktail is called the ‘Triple D’ as suggested by Floris from the Netherlands. The suggestions were all so great that there are 2 runners up who will also receive cocktails on us. We were delighted to host the managers of some of the Blue Flag beaches; the Mayoress; the Minister of Tourism and a bevy of local stakeholders for the 2015 Blue Flag launch. It is an honour to run our restaurant on one of the best beaches in the world! Grotto Beach received an additional accolade because it has received Gold for 15 years in a row. Did you know it is also one of the few Blue flag beaches that have beach wheelchairs? Cocktails and Milkshakes Our new cocktail is named ‘Triple D’ (Delicious Dutchies Delight). Thanks to all of you who voted in the restaurant and in our online poll…and congratulations to Floris who suggested it. The suggestions were all so wonderful that we’ve decided the 2nd and 3rd favourite suggestions should also have a cocktail on us – Japie Louw and Sara De Villiers – that’s you! There has been a noticeable increase in our kiddie clientele and we suspect it could be the milkshakes. The kids don’t seem to be able to get enough of them! So if you’re craving a cool cocktail or a marvelous milkshake…you know where to come! Looking forward to seeing you all enjoying the Spring season, the festival, the whales and wonderful Hermanus. Remember that we will be screening all rugby matches from the World Cup Rugby 2015 that the Springboks are...

Well, it’s time to start the whale celebrations! The Hermanus Whale Fringe Festival starts next week and runs until the 11th of October. There is much to see, do and experience including a performance by your favourite musical maestros, Palm Strings, at Dutchies on Friday 25th September. It is the Fernkloof Flower Festival from 24th-27th September, and then, the world renowned Hermanus Whale Festival from 2-4 October. Have you sent us your suggestion for the naming of our new Summer cocktail yet? We’ve had a couple of great suggestions and will be announcing the name on Tuesday 22nd September. Please go and make your suggestion or vote for which one you think is the best so far. 22nd September is also Prinsjes Dag and, in the Dutch tradition, we’ll be serving desserts fit for royalty. Please remember that De Tafel van de Chef is fully booked this month so please book now for October to avoid disappointment. Looking forward to seeing you all enjoying the Spring season, the festival, the whales and wonderful...

And suddenly…it’s Spring!

What a range of weather we’ve been having. Spring…Winter…a dash of Autumn, a hint of Summer…and then Winter again. But you know it’s really settling into Spring when the landscape bursts into colour, the Swallows arrive and you can see the whales from your seat on our terrace. Almost every vacant plot in Hermanus is covered in Daisies and the beautiful nature that surrounds us is alive with Spring fever. It’s time to shake off the cobwebs of Winter and get out and about. Celebrate Spring with us. From this Friday the 28th of August we will be open in the evenings every day. As it’s the end of the month, it’s also time for some live music with Alan Cameron and Friends! Join us for Cocktails, sunset and dinner, and some excellent music!! Alan will actually be performing every Friday evening from now on, and he’ll be joined by other maestro’s from Cape Town at the end of each month. The next De Tafel van de Chef is on Thursday 17th September. These evenings are always delicious and delightful…we really get to know the wine and the winemaker…and Chef Jana comes up with dishes that, to date, have been nothing but scrumptious. So diarise (and book your spot) now! Looking forward to seeing you enjoying this beautiful time of year at our very special spot on the...
